Kangana Ranaut Petition Rejected by High Court: BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut has suffered a major setback from the Punjab-Haryana High Court in a 2021 case. The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday, August 1, 2025, dismissed Kangana Ranaut's petition in which she had sought quashing of the defamation complaint against her and the summons order issued by a Bathinda court. Let us tell you that an elderly woman had filed a defamation case against Kangana.

While dismissing Kangana's petition, Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya said in his order, "There are specific allegations against the petitioner, who is a celebrity, that the false and defamatory allegations made by her in the retweet have harmed the reputation of the respondent and have degraded him not only in his eyes but also in the eyes of others. Therefore, filing a complaint to protect his rights cannot be termed as malicious. A holistic reading of the criticised order makes it clear that the Magistrate (Bathinda Court) has given due consideration to the material available on record, and only after recording the satisfaction that prima facie an offence under Section 499 IPC has been constituted against the petitioner, the process has been issued".

Let us tell you that 73-year-old Mahinder Kaur of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda district of Punjab had filed a complaint in 2021. She had alleged that Kangana had defamed her by wrongly identifying her as Shaheen Bagh's famous Bilkis Bano in the tweet. At the same time, Kangana shared the tweet and alleged that 'Shaheen Bagh Dadi' also joined the farmers' movement at various border points of the national capital.

Kangana Ranaut had written this in a tweet

The tweet reposted by Kangana Ranaut read, "Ha ha ha, this is the same grandmother who was featured in Time magazine as the most powerful Indian and is available for Rs 100. Pakistani journalists have shamefully hijacked international PR for India. We need our own people to put our point across internationally".

The petition was filed in the year 2022
